Gym and Pool Privileges

EXERCISE AND SPORT SCIENCE POOL AND GYM PRIVILEGES FACILITIES USE POLICIES

In order to use Exercise & Sport Science facilities and be eligible to participate in all Campus Recreation and HEELS for Health programs, all UNC-CH faculty/staff and/or each member of their immediate families and UNC Hospital employees (spouses and children not eligible) must pay a fee. Payroll deduction is encouraged for convenience in renewal.

Dependent children (18 and under) of UNC-CH faculty/staff and dependent children of UNC students who have purchased a Privilege Card are ONLY eligible to use the pool, and only during specified recreational swim hours for children. An adult must accompany children under 12 years of age. Spouse and dependent privileges require an additional $5 charge to cover the costs of preparing a picture ID card. Dependent children refers to children 18 years of age and under, residing at home with the eligible parent.

STEPS TO ACQUIRING POOL & GYM PRIVILEGES

1. Verify eligibility.

2. Present payment and proper documentation at the UNC One Card Office, which is located in the basement of the Daniels Building (UNC Student Stores). School Year Hours: 7:30am – 5:00pm, M-F.

ELIGIBLE
UNC-CH Faculty/Staff must be a member of TIAA or the State Retirement System and may purchase the privilege for themselves and/or their spouse and dependent children. For spouse/child privileges the spouse/child must also be present to have their photo taken. Spouse/Child renewals must be done by the UNC-CH Faculty/Staff member in person at the UNC One Card Office. The UNC-CH Faculty/Staff member must purchase the privilege in person with proper identification. Payroll deduction is only available to PERMANENT full- or part-time employees of UNC-CH.
UNC Hospital Employees and House Staff must be a PERMANENT full- or part-time (20 hours or more a week) and may purchase the privilege for themselves with a completed “Verification of Employee Status” form. This form is obtained from the Employee Recreation Office, 9th Floor, Main Hospital. UNC Hospital Employees must present the "Verification of Employee Status" form and proper ID in person at the UNC One Card Office for both first time enrollment and renewals. UNC Hospital employees are not eligible for payroll
deduction. Spouses and dependants of UNC Hospital employees are not eligible to receive privileges.
Post Doctoral Fellows may purchase the privilege for themselves and/or their spouse and dependent children age 18 and under (must be residing in home). The post doctoral fellow must purchase the privilege in person with proper identification (UNC One Card). For
spouse/child privileges the spouse/child must also be present to have their photo taken. Spouse/Child renewals must be done by the post doctoral fellow in person at the UNC One Card Office.
Retired UNC-CH Faculty/Staff (residing in Chapel Hill) may purchase the privilege for themselves and/or their spouse and dependent children. The retiree must purchase the privilege in person with proper identification (UNC One Card). For spouse/child privileges the
spouse/child must also be present to have their photo taken. Spouse/Child renewals must be done by the UNC-CH Retiree in person at the UNC One Card Office.
Full-time UNC-CH Students who are currently registered, paying student fees, and have a valid UNC One Card may use the facilities free of charge. UNC-CH students must have a valid UNC One Card and paid-in-full student account to purchase the privilege for their spouse or dependent children age 18 and under (must be residing in home). For spouse/child privileges the spouse/child must also be present to have their photo taken. Spouse/Child renewals must be done by the UNC-CH Student in person at the UNC One Card Office. A full time student who registers for fall classes but is not enrolled during the summer may purchase a Summer Privilege card at the One Card Office for $30. (Student must be registered for classes the previous spring and the following fall to be eligible for the summer privilege. New/Incoming students are not eligible)
Visiting Scholars may purchase the privilege for themselves and/or their spouse and dependent children age 18 and under (must be residing in home). The sponsoring department must first make application to the Benefits Section of Human Resources (complete Visiting Scholars forms) and then have the visitor acquire a UNC One Card. For spouse/child privileges the spouse/child must also be present to have their photo taken. Spouse/Child renewals must be done by the Visiting Scholar in person at the UNC One Card Office.
Continuing Studies Students are eligible as long as they are enrolled in class for the current semester. Privileges may be purchased at the One Card Office for $60 per semester . Continuing Studies students must have a valid UNC One Card to purchase privileges.

Tar Heel Temps are not eligible
Temporary Employees are not eligible
Certain UNC Affiliates may be eligible to purchase for themselves only. Please contact the UNC One Card office for more information.

How do I cancel my gym privileges?
Employees who are having gym privileges payroll deducted may cancel them at any time. Simply come by the UNC One Card Office to fill out a cancellation form.

Gym privileges that have been paid for in full are non-refundable.
